Demon Arts
Slayers 2 Demon Art trees explained: Shockwave, Ice, Dream Manipulation, Tamari and Explosive Blood, plus the Reaper and Arrow Evil Arts.
Introduction
Demon Arts are the Demon route's answer to Breathing Styles, and in Slayers 2 they sit inside a two tier structure that many players never fully understand. Standard Demon Arts such as Shockwave, Ice Manipulation, Dream Manipulation, Tamari and Explosive Blood form the core kit, while a smaller set of higher tier abilities, including Reaper and Arrow, are officially presented as Evil Arts that sit above the standard layer. This section explains that hierarchy, how each art is obtained, how Demon Horns and Beast Cores feed the upgrade tree, and how the map wide Sunlight mechanic shapes where and when a Demon can actually play. We also cover Upper Rank progression, how Demon builds compare to Slayer builds in PvP and PvE, and the decision framework for whether converting to the Demon route is worth it for your save. If you are weighing a conversion, read the hierarchy table and the Sunlight survival advice before you commit your materials.
Demon Art Hierarchy
| Ability | Category | Role in a Demon Build |
|---|---|---|
| Shockwave | Demon Art | Core area damage and crowd disruption; the standard first pick for new Demons. |
| Ice Manipulation | Demon Art | Freeze and slow based control that locks targets down for follow up burst. |
| Dream Manipulation | Demon Art | Control and debuff focused; strong in duels where disabling beats raw damage. |
| Tamari | Demon Art | Signature art kept by name in every language; treated as a distinct damage profile. |
| Explosive Blood | Demon Art | High burst damage art with heavy resource cost; best inside vulnerability windows. |
| Reaper | Evil Art | Higher tier tree officially labelled Evil Art, with its own expanded skill progression. |
| Arrow | Evil Art | Ranged oriented Evil Art presented separately from the standard Demon Art layer. |
Demon Art Systems
Demon Art vs Evil Art
Two layers, not one tree -- knowing the difference saves materials.
Farming Demon Horns
The Demon route's core material loop for art upgrades.
Beast Cores and Scaling
The second material that pushes your art tree past its early ceiling.
Surviving Sunlight
The map level mechanic that punishes careless Demons.
Demon PvP Strengths
Where Demons dominate, and where they fall apart.
Reaper Evil Art
The officially labelled Evil Art that caps the melee Demon route.
Arrow Evil Art
The ranged option at the top of the Evil Art tier.
Core Mechanics
The Demon route in Slayers 2 runs on a different economy from the Slayer route, and understanding it is the difference between a Demon that scales and one that stalls. Instead of Katana tiers and Breathing trainers, Demons progress through Demon Arts: ability sets that are obtained and upgraded separately, each with its own damage profile, range band, cooldown structure and resource cost. Upgrading an art consumes Demon Horns farmed from Demon side objectives and Beast Cores that feed the higher nodes of the tree. Officially, the standard layer covers arts such as Shockwave, Ice Manipulation, Dream Manipulation, Tamari and Explosive Blood, while Reaper and Arrow are presented as Evil Arts sitting above that layer, with their own expanded skill progression. Layered on top is the Sunlight mechanic: exposed map areas apply continuous damage during daylight hours, so Demon play is partly a routing problem where you plan movement between indoor and underground zones. Demon Arts also scale off different attribute priorities than Breathing Styles, which means a converted save usually needs a full reallocation.
Advantages
The Demon route offers several clear advantages that Slayers simply do not have. Demon Art burst damage in a vulnerability window is higher than any single Breathing Style rotation, which makes Demons the preferred damage dealers in organised boss groups that can hold a target still. Control arts such as Ice Manipulation and Dream Manipulation give Demons genuine lockdown tools that Slayers lack entirely, and those tools scale with the same upgrade materials as damage nodes, so a single investment covers both roles. The Evil Art layer also provides a longer progression ceiling: while a Slayer's Breathing Style plateaus once the style is mastered, an Evil Art tree keeps offering meaningful nodes to unlock, which keeps long term progression satisfying. Finally, Demons are heavily favoured in night cycle PvP and in confined indoor arenas, where their area arts hit multiple opponents at once.
Challenges
The Demon route is genuinely harder to play, and the weaknesses are structural rather than cosmetic. Sunlight damage is the headline problem: exposed map areas drain your health continuously during daylight, which forces you indoors during exactly the hours when most quests and events are active, and it makes open world exploration a constant routing puzzle. The material loop is also longer, since Demon Horns and Beast Cores both need to be farmed before your art tree can grow, while Slayers simply buy Katana upgrades with Yen. Standard arts and Evil Arts are separate layers, so materials invested in an early standard art do not fully carry over if you later pivot to an Evil Art tree, and the community documentation for the Evil Art layer is thinner than for the standard arts. Converting also costs you your entire existing Slayer investment, because weapon tiers and skill points do not transfer between routes.

Quick Tips
Master one standard Demon Art before you invest a single material into an Evil Art tree. The two layers are separate progression paths, and materials poured into low tier nodes of a standard art do not fully carry over if you later pivot to Reaper or Arrow. Pick the art that matches how you actually fight, Shockwave for packs, Ice Manipulation for control, Explosive Blood for burst, and push it to a real plateau first. Only once that art is genuinely capped does the Evil Art investment start paying for itself, and by then you will also know exactly what role you want to fill.
Treat Sunlight as a routing problem, not a stats problem. New Demons try to solve daylight by stacking survivability, which wastes attribute points on a mechanic you can simply avoid. Instead, learn which map areas are covered, plan your farming loops underground, and schedule surface objectives for night cycles. Demons who internalise this early farm at nearly the same rate as Slayers, while Demons who ignore it spend half their session retreating to safe zones with a health bar that never fully refills before the next exposure window begins.
Open PvP with a control art, never with burst. Demon Art burst is high damage but comes with long animation frames, and an experienced Slayer will parry the opener and convert it into a full combo before your damage lands. Leading with Ice Manipulation or Dream Manipulation forces your opponent to react to a status effect first, which buys the frames you need to land the burst safely. This single ordering change is the most common reason Demon duelists climb from losing most fights to winning most of them.
